If you and I, every time we pass a mirror, complain about our looks, remember that a girl is watching us and that is what she is learning. She is learning to self-objectify. I don’t want my daughter equating her self worth based on how she looks. I don’t want my daughter to think her accomplishments don’t mean anything if she does not attain the impossible standard of beauty. NO ONE CAN and NO ONE WILL EVER. Every woman knows that voice in the back of her head telling her she is not good enough, she will never be good enough. Well for me it stops now! YES! I have small boobs, stretch marks, thighs that touch, a pudgy stomach, short legs. But I embrace who I am- and know that my outer appearance will never define me! So while this patriarchal world may try and do there best to objectify me and define me into one little box- I will not. I am done with tearing myself down and never being good enough. They tell us a woman’s value and power lie in her youth, beauty, and sexuality, and not in her capacity as a leader. I encourage all of the women out there in the world- Stand Up for Yourselves and Stand Up for The Future Women of the World.
